The Port of Metković is located in the very center of the city of Metković on the left and right banks of the Neretva River, and was built in the period from 1883 to 1912. During that time, it took on its current form, the shore was landscaped, individual warehouses were built, and it is connected to the nearby Railway Station, which is also located on the right bank of the Neretva River. During the development of the port in Metković from the end of the 17th century, we can also follow the development of the city of Metković itself, from a small hamlet on the border of the Venetian Republic and the Ottoman Empire to an important transport and economic center that became an important center of Austrian rule from the mid-19th century. Thus, the Port of Metković changed its location several times, from Unka on the right bank of the Neretva, Pojstružje on the left bank of the Neretva to the current port, which is located in this place after the regulation of the Neretva riverbed. Since the mid-20th century, the port has gradually lost its importance as most port traffic has been moved to the Port of Ploče, so today the Port of Metkovo is mostly focused on tourism, and is especially interesting during the Ship Marathon event , which starts right in the Port of Metkovo.
