INDUSTRIAL ARCHITECTURE

Industrial architecture

(railway and port warehouses, Mill, Winery, Development)

The development of industry in Metković can be traced back to the mid-19th century, and industrial architecture is thus also linked to the development of the port, with the most significant examples being found in the wider port area or directly in the port. The most significant are the port and railway warehouses dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their main feature is the functionality and simplicity of design of the industrial architecture of the time, mixing earlier features of the Art Nouveau style with modern trends in architecture. A new impetus in the development of industry occurred after World War II, as evidenced by the following buildings: the Mill complex with a monumental silo, the Winery and Razvitak, which are characterized by the use of concrete as the basic building material and the simplicity of design and features of contemporary architecture, which is especially visible on the Winery building, whose facade is enriched with concrete honeycombs.
