The spectacular start of the Marathon under the bridge in Metković is watched by thousands of spectators, and it is also watched with great interest by spectators on the waterfronts in the settlements along the Neretva River, as well as at the finish line in Ploče, where the winners are given a fantastic welcome. The Marathon has been held since 1998 on the second Saturday in August, and every year the number of boats participating in this beautiful traditional event increases.
